Saturday Night TV

I enjoyed watching Dancing for Comic Relief with the Hilarious but very good winning performance from Keith Lemon and Paddy doing the famous 'Dirty Dancing' routine.This is the second winning 'cross dressed' performance - the first one being from Richard Whiley? doing Flashdance! The BBC must be getting in touch with its femme side! Certainly brightened up a Saturday night in!

I also enjoyed U2's roof top performance of their new song "Put on your Boots" and the appropriately selected Vertigo and Magnificent (link via the BBC website)- certainly caused a stir in central London. Must have been amazing to have been there and U2 seemed very happy to be back on the scene - great to have them back... (I am old enough to remember the Live Aid concerts!).

Seven Deadly Sins

Picked up this juicy tit bit about sinning compiled by the none other than the Catholic big wigs themselves - Apparently men and women sin in different ways , for men lust and gluttony are the top sins (no surprises there then) and for women Pride and envy are top (well what do you expect with all those lovely bags and shoes around!).
The full list if you're interested reads;
MEN - lust, gluttony, sloth, anger
pride, envy, greed
WOMEN - Pride, envy, anger, lust, gluttony,
avarice,sloth

No Kissing we're commuters!

I was interested to hear on the national news and Loose Women that our local train station has banned people from stopping in cars to kiss goodbye to their loved ones, because it causes queues and holds up taxis.

Instead there is now a designated space for such goings on - The hideous sign pictured is the real one that some jobsworth hurriedly drew (probably got a 3 year old child to do it).

Having encountered the idiots at the planning department they seem to specialize in a complete lack of common sense - the system used to work perfectly well before they "redesigned" it all. Picnics and Brewerys spring to mind!

The Velvet Touch

Kate and I seem to have spent the whole of February and a small fortune in Velvet...(Well someone has to boost the economy!)

The first visit was dinner a deux for a lovely meal on our own during which we indulged in one of the speciality chocolate desserts - yummy -Velvet is always good for couples and small groups of friends. We were delighted to have Diana join us later for coffee/ wine and then Astrid and Sandra came in (must have been someting in the air)... although we were too early for Valentines Day!

The second visit was with Karen from Scotland including 2 visits to the bar above which was great as it was so cold out that we didn't have to step foot outside until home time. On this visit the very camp French waiter tipped us off about a 50% off offer that was available so we took advantage of this at our next visit which was organised by Lisa in honour of her lovely sister visiting and a lovely time was had by all. Unfortunately we had to head home early after the meal as poor Kate was fighting off a cold.
However we were delighted to repeat the experience yet again this week and welcomed some newer girls as well as catching up with old favourites and this time we were able to make up for lost social interactions heading on to Northern Concord and then Naps where we had a great time with Emma and Mandy until very late (finally made it to bed at 3am!) So today we were both very tired but happy - I think a few Early nights will be required as a girl needs her beauty sleep!

Magical Elixir

I thought I would share with you an amazing beauty tip that gives the softest and smoothest of skins. Karen had mentioned it on her visit North of the border and it rang a bell with me as having many other health and skin benefits which are to name but a few;

1) Mouth wash - Add 1/2 a teaspoon to a cup of warm water for an alcohol free mouth wash. Can also be used neat as toothpaste ....but word of warning tastes salty and yak!

2) Facial exfoliator - make a paste of 1 teaspoon in a little warm water (can be mixed in the hand) rub on to the face - mainly the nose and T-Zone.

3) Skin Softener and conditioner - simply add a couple of scoops to your bath water for the softest of skins - I can guarantee this works - tried it last night!

4) and last but not least can be used to treat cystitis (A teaspoon in mug of hot water) slight word of warning according to my homeopathic sources -it lowers blood pressure - so do not excert yourself after taking it. Probably best before bed time.

So what is this magical substance you ask? .....It is none other than humble old Bicarb of Soda!

I purchased a big tub from my local supermarket for the bargain price of 75pence!!

Great way to beat the credit crunch

Shirley Valentine

I have just managed to scoff a whole packet of Liquorice Allsorts whilst watching the film of the above title. I was struck by how thin everyone was - I think I will have to stop the 'see' food diet and swop it for calomari ! Oink Oink!!

Watercolours

Our friend Karen came south of the border for a visit this week and as Bob had some annual leave due it enabled Kate and I to spend some time with her. We started off with a visit to the Trafford Centre which was extremely quiet (well almost deserted) which was great for a serious shopping session punctuated by a couple of coffee stops and a pleasant lunch break.
Then it was home for a quick wash and change of clothes and out to Velvet in the evening - we were surprised to find that the bar was quiet so we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink and popped downstairs to the restaurant which was busy for a Tuesday evening - but we had a lovely table and a very nice meal. We then popped back upstairs to the bar for a drink or two - during which we had a lovely long chat and found out alot about Karen's life . It was great to have some one on one time as previously we had been out in a larger group and Karen had been fairly quiet (probably because she couldn't get a word in edgeways!).

We then met up in Manchester the next day and headed to the Art Gallery which was a very enjoyable experience and something that fulfilled Karen's dreams (literally) as she revealed it was something she had dreamt about doing a long time ago. Appropriately enough the top I had chosen to wear that day (my new silk one) was listed on the receipt as "watercolours".

We then headed up to the shops and strangely despite Manchester being on our doorstep we realised that we hadn't ventured to the shopping area for over 10 years and hardly recognised the place so Karen ended up being our guide!

Silly Blogger!

As Kate has recently posted - I seem to have messed up my old blogs log-in process (It told me to set up a new account and being a techno virgin I gave in to it!) .

Anyway apologies to my followers sorry to have caused any inconvenience or distress but normal service (or something close to it) will follow. I suppose I could be clever and pretend that I intended to launch a new blog for the new year - which is probably true to some extent but not intentional at all!

I am experimenting with the template and layout at the moment - which I am not all that happy with but I can't seem to find the old ones at the mo - so bear with me and stand-by for changes and improvements to come (hopefully) !!
